My Personal Note:

I am not going to lie, I cried when I got this email. The subject line was “Congratulations! You have been selected to be a 40 Under 40 by InvestmentNews.” I didn’t even click on the email I just sobbed, Mari thought something bad happened. When I told her, she started crying instantly because she knew this was the only award that I ever mentioned and wanted since day 1. My favorite part was that I was with my family when that email arrived. Mari, Ryker, and Xzander all saw my raw emotion and it was so special to share that moment with them, I will never forget it. The journey to this point was not even possible without Mari. She believed in me more than I believed in myself many days. Heck, she was our first employee! And while my boys will likely never remember that moment, I will always remember it and just knowing I could hug them when I didn’t really know what else to do.

The other incredible part was that I vividly remember telling my grandfather that I would win this award. My grandfather was my first client and one of the most influential people in my life. I was at his house one day a few years ago and I had the recent InvestmentNews with me and it happened to be the 40 Under 40 issue. He randomly asked about it, which was odd for many reasons.  Why did he notice it? Why was I carrying that magazine with me that day? I told him I would be on that list someday, and as any incredible grandparent would say, “I know you will, Chad.” So why this story now? Well, my Pap passed away on April 2, I received this email on May 4. While I never got to share the “I told you so!” moment with him, I would like to think he made sure he got his vote in.

Fun side story: The young and “cool” Chad used to tell himself he was going to win this award before the age of 30. Don’t judge me, confidence is a good thing. The humble, loving husband, proud father of two amazing boys, is ecstatic to make this list by the age 31*. *Disclaimer: a 31-year-old with entirely too much gray hair already.

While I will never know who voted for me, I do know some of you who were there to help with questions, thoughts, and to keep me going; Taylor Schulte, Eric & Kali Roberge, Ben Brandt, Fizzy, and AJ. Thank you, whether it was a vote or a few questions/answers, thank you!

To everyone at InvestmentNews, especially Liz, Brittney, and Evan, who said, “average at best, but let’s give him a shot!” – thank you! More importantly, thank you for keeping the integrity of an award where it is earned, not bought.

Listen, this profession still has a long way to go, but this award always made me say, “They are the good ones, they are doing it the right way.” I am honored and grateful to be a part of this prestigious list.

Truthfully, it still feels a bit surreal to me. At the end of the day, I am a simple guy who fell in love with personal finance but wanted to shake it up a bit. It has been a hell of a journey to here, but I am just getting started.
